Hi,

Hi i have an RV042 running Firmware version : 1.3.7.4 (Dec 23 2005 10:09:32) , while trying to upgrade directly to RV0XX-v4.2.3.06-20150319-code it fails using the firmware upgrade page - shows an http error message from page 'http://192.168.3.1/upgrade.cgi" with error

No data received

ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE
Should i be trying any other older version?
Model number says 'RV042' no hardware version mentioned.
Appreciate a reponse.

Hello my name is Patrick with Cisco eSupport,

It sounds like in all likelyhood that you have an older version of the RV hardware. You can check the hardware version of you router by navigating to the System Summary page of the web configuration utility. The PID VID field will show the device name and hardware version (i.e. RV042G V01). This information can also be found on the underside of the RV042 in the PID VID box. The latest version of the firmware will only support devices with version 3 hardware.

If you have a version 1 Linksys badged device as I suspect you do the latest firmware for said device can be found here

Hope this helps you figure out your issue. If you have any more question feel free to ask away.

Patrick,

Thank you for the response. I do not see a HW version number both in the system summary page and on the sticker. Here is what i see on the summary page

Serial Number :    DHY007107426 Firmware version :    1.3.7.4 (Dec 23 2005 10:09:32)
CPU :    Intel IXP425-266 DRAM :    32M Flash :    8M
System up time :    0 Days 1 Hours 27 Minutes 15 Seconds    (Now: Tue Nov 3 2015 23:10:51 )

I looked at the IWE page that you sent, its shows firmware for sx300 and sx500, is that same at RV042? if yes can you point me to the specific firmware that i should be using?

Thanks,

Hello,

So sorry about the confusion I sent you the wrong link. You are using an older version of the hardware as your firmware version begin with a 1. The latest stable version of the firmware for this model is from 2009 but can still be found to download here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/routers/ps9923/ps9925/RV042_Firmware.zip

The version you should be using is 1.3.12.19-tm. There is a newer 1.3.13.19-tm but there have been reported issues regarding VPN on this firmware. Hope I've been able to clear up your confusion.
