Objectives

Direct Inward Dialing (DID) creates a translation that maps phone numbers provided by a PSTN carrier to internal user extensions. Up to fifteen translations can be created and each can either translate a single number or a range of numbers.

This article describes how to configure DID to user extensions on the UC500 series.

Direct Inward Dialing to User Extensions

Step 1. In the Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA), choose Configure > Telephony > Dial Plan > Incoming. The Incoming Dial Plan page opens:

Step 2. Click the Direct Dialing tab and choose the UC500 device from the Hostname drop-down list. This tab displays all current DID plans. 

Add a DID Translation

Step 1. Click Add in the Direct Dial tab to add Internal User Extensions. The Direct Dial to Internal User Extension window appears.

Step 2. Enter a description for this translation.

Step 3. Choose the appropriate incoming trunk from the Incoming Trunk drop-down list.  This is the digital trunk type is related to the SIP incoming service provider, which provides the DID numbers.

Step 4. Enter the DID Range Start and End Numbers. These are the numbers provided by a PSTN carrier.

Step 5. Enter the Internal Extension Start and End Numbers. These are the extensions of the internal users that the DID numbers will be mapped to in order.

Step 6. Click OK to save all the changes made on the direct dial to internal user extensions.

Step 7. To edit a DID translation, click on the desired translation in the Direct Dialing tab, and then click Modify. Repeat steps 2 through 6.

Step 8. To delete a DID translation, click on the desired translation under the Direct Dialing tab, then click Delete.
