When an IP phone connects to the UC500, it receives configuration based on its MAC Address. You can either preconfigure a phone before it registers, or let it auto-register to the UC500 and edit the configuration then. This phone configuration is where extensions are assigned to the lines on the phones.

This article describes how to setup phone configurations on the UC500 series.

Applicable Devices

• UC500 Series

User Extensions

1. Navigate to Configure > Telephony > Users and Extensions > Users and Phones using the Cisco Configuration Assistant.

Users and Phones

2. The Users and Phones window appears. Select the UC500 device from the drop-down list in the Hostname field.

3. All registered phones will display under the User Extensions tab. A phone that is not configured will register with the UC500 automatically if it is on the appropriate VLAN and can contact the DHCP server. These phones will also display in the User Extensions tab.

Adding a Phone

1. Under the User Extension tab, click Add.

Phone Information

2. The Add Phone window appears. Configure the following parameters.

• MAC Address

Enter MAC Address of the IP phone.

• Phone Type

Choose the model of the IP phone from the drop-down list.

• Expansion Module

Choose any expansion modules that are connected to the phone from the drop-down list.

• Allow Video Calls

Check this box to allow video calls for the IP phone.

• Use as Teleworker Phone

Check or uncheck the Use as Teleworker Phone checkbox to enable or disable MTP. When this option is enabled, Media Termination Point (MTP) is configured on the phone so that Cisco Unified CME terminates the media stream. The MTP setting causes the UC500 to act as a proxy. Media packets are forwarded to other IP phones with the IP address of the UC500 in the source address field. MTP is typically used in remote teleworker phone deployments.

• Enable Extension Mobility

Check the box to enable extension mobility if one or more phone profiles have been created. Use the Associate Phone Profile drop-down list to apply a logout profile when no users are logged in.

• First Name

Enter the first name of the phone user.

• Last Name

Enter the last name of the phone user.

• User ID

Enter the user ID for this phone to be used when logging into Cisco Unity Express User Options webpages

• Password

Enter the password for this phone.

3. Click on the Button Assignments tab. Here, you can assign numbers and extensions to the line buttons on the IP phone. For more information, see the "Configuring Phone Button Assignments on the UC500" document.

Editing a Phone

When a phone auto-registers with the UC500, only the MAC Address and the Phone Type are configured. The rest of the configuration needs to be done manually. To edit a phone's configuration, click on the desired phone under the User Extension tab, and then click Edit. Refer to the parameters under the "Adding a Phone" section for more information.

Deleting a Phone

Click on the desired phone under the User Extensions tab, then click Delete... to remove that phone's configuration.
