Objective

The objective of this document is to explain FXS/DID Configuration on UC500 Series. The 4-port FXS/DID VIC can support up to 4 FXS ports for directly connected phones and fax machines or it can support up to four directly-inward-dial (DID) analog trunks ports. FXS is the port which delivers analog line to the subscriber to deliver dial tone and ring voltage. FXO is the port that receivers the analog line  from the central office. DID is a feature offered by telephone companies to assign a personal number for each employee without requiring separate wire for each user.

Applicable Devices

• UC500 Series

Software Version

• v8.6(0) [UC500 Series]

• v3.2(1) [Cisco Configuration Assistant]

DID Configuration

The next steps will guide you through the configuration of DID analog trunks on the UC500 Series.

Step 1. Log in to the Cisco Configuration Assistant and choose Telephony > Ports and Trunks > PSTN Trunks. The PSTN Trunks window opens.

Step 2. Choose FXS/DID tab to configure FXS/DID VIC ports.

Step 3. From the list, choose a FXS/DID interface to configure.

Step 4. In the Mode drop-down list, choose DID.

Step 5. In the Signal drop-down list, choose one of the following:

• Delay Dial — The originating end seizes the line and waits 20 ms to see if the far end is on-hook. If the far end is on-hook, then the originating end outpulses digits. If the far end is off-hook, then the originating end waits until the far end is on-hook before outpulsing digits.

• Immediate — The originating end seizes the line by going off-hook and, without waiting for a response, it begins to outpulse digits.

• Wink Start — The originating end seizes the line by going off-hook. It waits for acknowledgement from the other end before outpulsing digits. This is done in order to detect a malfunctioning trunk and allow the connection to send a re-order tone to the calling parity.

Note: The Caller ID, Extension, Permissions, and Block Restricted options are not available for DID configuration.

Step 6. Click Apply to save your settings.
