NSS6000 Series Firmware Upgrade via NSS Discovery Tool Software

Objective

Upgrade of the firmware version via the web configuration utility of the NSS6000 Series can present problems such as failed upgrades or halt of the process for hours. As an alternative, Cisco offers the NSS Discovery Tool software, which upgrades the firmware of the NSS devices without problems. This article explains how to upgrade the firmware of the NSS6000 Series using the NSS Discovery Tool Software.

Firmware Upgrade via NSS Discovery Tool Procedure

Note: Before you begin, make sure to do the following:

  • Connect your computer with the device and make sure both are in the same subnet.
  • Download the latest firmware version.
  • Backup the system settings before upgrading.

Step 1. Open the NSS Discovery Tool Software and Enter the IP address in theIP address field for the NSS6000.

Step 2. Enter the Subnet mask for the respective ip address entered in the subnet mask field.

Step 3. Enter the Default gateway in the default gateway field.Click Apply Changes.

Step 4. Click Connect to GUI.

Step 5. Use the web configuration utility of the storage device to choose Admin > Maintenance. 

Step 6. In the Firmware image file field , enter the path of the firmware file or click browse to locate it.

Step 7. Click Upgrade Firmware.

Step 8. Click Ok to continue.

Warning: A warning message appears asking the user to take a backup prior to upgrade and firmware require a reboot. System settings after this process might change. It is advised to backup the systems settings.

Once the system update is done wait till the system reboots and a solid green light glows before you access the web configuration utility.

Note: Before reconnecting to the web configuration utility it is advised to close the browser and clear the cache.

Step 9. (Optional) Repeat Step 5 if the device has dual images.

Verification of the Upgrade

Use the web configuration utility to choose System > Status.
