Hi all,
I have a business out of my house. Had it wired when it was built with cat5 everywhere. Bought a cisco RV325 to utilize it and it has been working fine. Upgraded to fiber from my provider. The cable from my provider is a Cat6 (i think) from the fiber box to the rv325. Works great so far.
Now I have run out of ports and the cheap builder used this crappy punch down exposed wire rack which is a total spaghetti mess. So I invested in a cisco SG350 switch and will tear out the old rack, jack the cables and plug them into the switch and plug the switch into a port on the rv325 and have DHCP address them. This is where I need some help.
So. I am an old administrator with enough networking knowledge to be dangerous. I "seem" to remember that I have to expand the NAT to cover the switch from the router for the switch ports to see the internet. The rv325 has "One to One Nat" and PAT Port address Translation options. I have no idea which one to use or how. I don't want to light this up and cut myself off at the knees so can someone give me a bit of a step by step guide. Thanks.
Also to connect the two boxes do I just use a cat6 from a router random port to a switch random port? Does it matter? Do I need to specially configure these connecting ports? Do I use a regular cat6 or a crossover cable? See Why I need a bit of assistance? LOL
I don't use any VPNs I just want a fast internal 192.168.1.xxx network off the switch with the router handling the edge security and internet connection
(Does the router handle the DHCP? or the switch? or both?)
What basic settings for the managed switch do I need to have turned on for what I want if any?
Sorry for the additional questions. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks again
Robert
