Reset SG350x to Factory Defaults - Ethernet Cables

The instructions for resetting to factory defaults says: "remove all ethernet cables"

Well, that's a pain if it's not necessary.

So why and when is it necessary?

I can understand if there are VLANS set up but what if there aren't?  Then is it still necessary when the switch reverts back to an unprogrammed switch across all ports?
