Can I set up alerting for Discards on a port?

Hey Guys and Gals,

I need to set up alerting for discards on certain ports in two 9509's. Does anyone know if this can be done? Is there a mib for it? If there is where do I start?

alerts are ususally available for interface changing states   like up/down.

discards counters are shown on the output of "show interface fcx/y" command for a given interface.

there isn't anyway to send this output as an alert to syslog.

I guess creating a script with  command  defined inside the script to run at specific interval  could be an option.

but again, it would be complete output not just discard counters.
