Connecting an IP RJ45 Device to an MDS9513

Is the following possible:

Site_A

Netapp filer (RJ45-IP Traffic)<------> MDS9513 (module ???-RJ45 SFP) <------> MDS9513 DS-X9304-18K9 (Gen2) (GigE LCC) <---------> DWDM Mux <------> to Site B

Site_B

From Site_A <-------> DWDM Mux <-------> MDS9513 DS-X9304-18K9 (Gen2) (GigE LCC) <------> MDS9513 (module ???-RJ45 SFP) <------> Netapp filer (RJ45-IP Traffic)

In Essence - Connecting a Netapp Filer via its RJ45 port with IP Traffic to an MDS9513. Then Routing the IO out via a Shared DWDM Link to another Netapp filer at a different Site..

Purpose to share an already exsisting SAN Fabric DWDM Link between MDS9513 at 2 sites.

Or does the MDS9513 only support IP Protocols via FCIP

is this for some kind of NetApp replication ? You can't connect directly from site B over ip network to filer at site A ?

Hi Dynamoxxx,

Yes you are absolutely right - it is for Netapp Replication "SnapMirror".... and Yes normally you would like to connect over an exsisting IP Network, but the current  Linki is highly Utilised and the Client would like to investigate all avenues to reduce TCO...

Hence because we already have an exsisting SAN Storage connection which goes:

EMC Array <----> MDS9513(FCIP) <----> CISCO 3560 <----> DWDM Mux <-------> DWDM Mux <----> CISCO 3560 <-----> MDS9513(FCIP) <----> EMC Array

It was questioned can we use could we utilise the SAN Link.... 2 Options seemed to devople from this

Opt 1- Connect via the CISCO 3560. But this would mean we have No method of controlling or putting QoS to ensure SAN IO traffic get prioirty over SnapMirror.

Opt 2 - Connect via the MDS9513 - Which may give us the QoS control..... But how that is achieved is what I am trying to get to grips with to see if its viable.

does your netapp device support fiber ports for replication? it may be an addon hardware.

Already considered/Proposed - But because the Netapp Array currently doesn't have FC HBAs installed and wanting to reduce TCO and its considered to be a Less preferred option.
