Hello forum users,
I have aa question about repicating EMC VNX Arrays between 2 data centers (3km distance) using FC(OE) over an existing PortChannel on Nexus 5548UP's:
Objective :
Interconnect 2 EMC VNX series Storage Arrays in order to replicate data using EMC Mirrorview.
EMC MirrorView can only use native FiberChannel or iSCSI.
Both VNX have already the native FC adapters on board, and in the Cisco Nexus switches, FC SFPs (DS-SFP-FC8G-SW) are foreseen for this purpose
Topology:
2 datacenters; 2 x 2 Cisco 5548UP switches , each set in a different VPC domain
Already in place : Portchannel (VPC) between these 2 datacenters. L2 connectivity
Data center 1: Nexus 1 + Nexus 2 in VPC Domain xxx
Data center 2: Nexus 1 + Nexus 2 in VPC Domain yyy
ISL:
DC1 Nexus 1 -- single link -- DC2 Nexus 1
DC1 Nexus 2 -- single link -- DC2 Nexus 2
OS version is NXOS 5.1.3N1
Question:
Each VNX array will be connected to its local Nexus 01 (Fabric A) and local Nexus 02 (Fabric B), thus respecting the “Dual Fabric” design practice.
How can we transport the FC traffic between the two data centers, while also respecting the separation of “Dual Fabric”.
Can we just create VFC (FCOE) Edge ports on each leg of the existing Ethernet port-channel? This way we would reuse the same ISL’s for Ethernet and FCOE.
Or de we need a dedicated link in each Fabric for FCOE ISL?
Thanks in advance,
Francis
