Hi ,

We are getting frequent discards on Netapp filers connected on nexus 7k ,Following is the observation at our end .

1 flow control is disabled .

2. No jumbo frames enabled .

3. No Cos enabled for iScsi traffic .

What could be reason for these discards and how this can be minimized .

Thanks

Rahul

Input discards on 7K modules are generally sign of congestion on one of the ports through which the traffic is egressing out. Say for example you have e1/1 connected to filer and e2/20 connected to core router. Traffic from e1/1 is going to egress out of e2/20.

If e2/20 is congested due to other ports sending traffic through it and  then depending on the type of module we could increment input discards on e1/1. The reason we drop it on ingress is because the egress line card is not giving credits for the ingress line card to send traffic towards it.

Can you provide details on the 7k module this filer is connected to. Would be good to post following

show mod

show int ex/x ===> This is the port connected to the filer.
