Hi,

I have a SAN director cisco MDS 9513, and had SFP replaced on a particular port.

Wanted to know whether was it really replaced or not..?? how can I check it..??

As I could not find "FCOT Removal" on this port event-history.

is there any other way to know this..??

Also, please let me know any link or guide from where I can see all the sytem error code and its explanation.

My H/W details are below.

BIOS:      version 1.0.6

kickstart: version 3.3(1c)

system:    version 3.3(1c) BIOS:      version 1.0.6

Depending on the Code version you are running you can look for this output . It will show when a SFP was removed and inserted.

module-2# show port-config internal all  (This command wil differ of earlier versions of SAN OS )

Mar 20 08:53:45 2011  00449361  fc2/20         ---   DOWN   Xcvr inserted

Mar 20 08:53:32 2011  00829429  fc2/20         ---   DOWN   Disable

Mar 20 08:53:32 2011  00826403  fc2/20         ---   DOWN   Disable

Mar 20 08:53:32 2011  00818936  fc2/20         ---   DOWN   Xcvr removed

Its been a long time since I had a look at this but perhaps you might have done a full inventory of the MDS and as all SFP's have a unique serial number, you might have some record somewhere that you can compare the before and after.

There are also some internal commands that might be useful in determining info about the port.

True but the question was how to know if the sfp was replaced.  You have to love those internal commands.

The command does show if the SFP was replaced ...

Perhaps I am missing something but does that command show it was replaced or just that the sfp was pulled and put back in again.  I have had many instances with MDS switches where the sfp was not properly seated and it had to be reseated rather forcefully.

Hi Rajeev,

the command you're looking for is

# show interface fc1/1 transceiver details

it will provide you with tons of info regarding the SFP, such as serial#, part#, Manufacturer, type and supported fibers and distances..

The catch here to know if it's replaced is that you need to have this command's output from before the replacement and compare it with the output after the replacement.

hth,

Kris
