Dear All,
I am new to storage network. I would like to setup a simple storage replication network for testing as follows:
HDS9570V <-(fiber channel)->MDS9xxx<-(fiber,IP)->MDS9xxx<-(fiber channel)->HDS9570V
May I know what minimum MDS series I can use? What particular modules I need? Is it possible to use UTP in-between MDS?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards,
Raymond

The best module to do this is the 14+2 MPS module which has 14 FibreChannel Ports and 2 GigE ports. The GigE ports support hardware encryption and hardware compression as well as advanced features like write acceleration.
I you are looking for the smallest solution then you should use the MDS9216i on both sides. This box contains the 14+2 MPS module as a fix module in the chassis and you have another slot to expand with any additional linecard in the future.
The GigE ports on the MDS are all SFP fiber ports, there is no UTP copper SFP available, but you could connect those ports to an Ethernet switch that has both fiber and UTP ports and from there use UTP to go to another Ethernet switch on the other side that converts UTP back to fiber into the other MDS 9216i.

I agree with the MDS hardware. You will be using RFC 3821 (FCIP) on the IP network. You will also require release 2.0 to support the 9216i. If you are requiring qualification with storge vendor for this application check with Storage vendor on support features of the MDS.
