Migrate fabric to new switch

I have two switches joined in a single fabric

MDS 9120 san-1a fabric policy switch

MDS 9124 san-1b added for additional port capacity

No longer require so many ports, so I've migrated all host connections to san-1b and want to retire san-1a, but it seems to host the fabric config. Is there a defined/recommended method for migrating the fabric config to the second switch?

I assume you mean the zone and zoneset configuration right?

You can go go the san1-a switch and for each VSAN enabled.  The config command is 'zoneset distribute full vsan xx'.

Once this is enabled for all VSANs, then on the same san1-a switch, reactivate the currently active zoneset for each VSAN.

This will push the complete zone database (fc-aliases too) to san-1b and it should show up in the config.  You need to do this for each VSAN.

Once completed...issue 'copy run start' to save the updated running configuration to NVRAM.

Device-alias is distributed by CFS, so when if configured them on san-1a, when you issued the 'device-alias commit', it should have pushed them over to san-1b.

Not sure that other config statements would need to be moved over.

Hope this helps,

Mike
