questions about port-channel

hi, all

i am a newbie of MDS.

now I have questions about port-channel.

currently we configure port-channel on the MDS(MDS9513), which contains 4 members....and We also have 3 other  port-channel

port-channel 53 is up

    Port description is "uslas-c6296fi-01-b"

    Hardware is Fibre Channel

    Port WWN is 24:35:00:05:73:e2:5e:40

    Admin port mode is F, trunk mode is on

    snmp link state traps are enabled

    Port mode is F

    Port vsan is 520

    Speed is 32 Gbps

my questions are as below:

1) how do you know which server is using which port-channel ?

2) how do you know how much traffic / or utilization each port is using?

3) how do you see if the port-group is saturated?

Hi Ivy,

Answers inline:

1) how do you know which server is using which port-channel ?

I assume you meant which inteface in the port channel?

They are load balanced, so each server might at any time be using any of the interfaces.

That is one of the benefits of using a port-channel.  If these were individual interfaces not

in a port channel, the servers would be distributed round robin.  The server would be tied to that

interface, ( which you could see in the show flogi database on the MDS ) and could only use

the bandwidth of that one interface.  Also, if that interface goes down, then the server would have

to log back into the fabric over another interface to the MDS.

2) how do you know how much traffic / or utilization each port is using?

Use Fabric Manager, Device Manager, Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager or show interface CLI command.

3) how do you see if the port-group is saturated?

Use Fabric Manager, Device Manager, or Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager.
