Replacing old 9509 with new 9509

Hi all,

We just purchased a new 9509 to replace our older 9509. I would like to migrate all of the zoneing information from the old switch to the new switch so I can move my host connections over intact.

We have a mix of Win, Linux and HP-UX.

I am under the assumption all I have to do is the following:

  • •1.       Create new vsan on new switch to match the existing switch.
  • •2.       Make sure the new switch has a different domain ID
  • •3.       Add all of the new ports to the new vsan
  • •4.       Enable all of the ports
  • •5.       ISL the two switches together
  • •6.       Verify the zone information carried over to new switch
  • •7.       Move host connections to new switch
  • •8.       Disconnect the old switch.

Will someone please let me know if I am heading down the correct path?

Hi William,

You're on the correct path.

Once the ISL is estblished between the MDS's, the active zoneset will be

propagated to the new switch.  You should then copy the active zoneset to the

full zoneset (on the new switch) so that it will be available for modification.

Regards,

Ken
