Hi there,

I am trying to upgrade the firmware on a Cisco SG200-50 switch. I was able to setup a TFTP server and get the boot code updated to version 1.3.5.06.

When I try and update the firmware to the latest version (1.4.7.06) I am getting an "illegal format" error when I use TFTP or HTTPS. The filename is  sx200_fw-1476.ros and it was downloaded from the Cisco website at:

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=283771828&softwareid=282463182&release=1.1.2.0

The switch is currently at:

Boot code is now at version 1.3.5.06 firmware is at : 1.3.2.02

Can you let me know how to get the firmware to the latest version?

-Jeff

Hi Jeff,

My name is Kristian and I am one of the engineers at Cisco Small Business.

The error message that you get is due to the reason that you are running very old firmware which is quite different from the latest one due to major improvements in the OS.

You can resolve the issue by upgrading to an intermediary firmware version - please try the following:

-Upgrade to 1.3.7.18

-Reboot

-Upgrade to 1.4.1.03

-Reboot

-Upgrade to latest firmware 1.4.7.06

You may also try skipping step 3 (upgrade to 1.4.1.03) however you may get an error similar to the one you are currently experiencing.

Hope that helps!

Kris
