Solved: Changing SFE2010 Default VLAN

I have a SFE2010 that I wish to use with two SFE2000P and 8 SFE1000P. The SFE2010 ships with a default VLAN of 1 while the SFE2000P and SFE1000P both have defaults of 100. I wish to change the default VLAN of the SFE2010 to 100 to match the others. I have tried doing this via the console, it says "operation completed" but it simply changes it back to 1 if I go back in to the "Default VLAN setup" menu item.

I tried saving the startup config and backup config after changing and rebooting the switch. Same results.

What am I missing here? How do I get this to actually change to 100?

Hi kjacobson,

SFE2000P and SFE1000P were originally made to support the Linksys One phone system, and as such had a fixed VLAN and QOS configuration.

Never could work around that default configuration, had to work with it, as the SFE version1 of the firmware expected VLANs to be at particular ID's and you really couldn't alter it. I thought it was wierd having a untagged vlan of 100 as a native or default VLAN, but the VLAN ID isn't propogated as it's untagged.

Times have changed and so will the software shortly. Since the native or default VLANs are untagged, having different native VLAN ID's is annoying and confusing, but not unworkable.

Until the Version 2 of the code comes out for the SFE2000,SFE2000P and SFE1000P, I can only apologize for this annoyance, and I've been though this myself and just had to work with it. This annoyance will go away hopefully shortly with a new release of code. I have no fixed date for this release of code :(

Thanks for the information Dave. This is good to know that something is at least coming sometime. :)

As for getting the default VLAN to change on the SFE2010, I was able to get it to change. I tried the same combination of things I did originally. Changed the value via the console, then saved the configurations via the web manager, and finally rebooted the switch. This time it worked!

So I have to guess that when I first attempted to change it, something went wrong along the way.

The new software has finally arrived.

I checked today and saw that the new release of code is available at the support > downloads section of www.cisco.com.

Looks like 3.0.0.16 is available to download. You will , I believe need a cisco login to grab that new file.

I found that when i tried to download software via the SFE2010 product info page, which is usually another way to get code, only the older software could be downloaded. That i guess will take a few days to change.
