Cisco 2960X two switch stack

I am looking for a little help as I am fairly new to configuring switches. I have two 2960X switches in a stack and have the following questions.

1. How can I force one of the switches to always be the stack master?

2. What is the proper method to configure stacked switches? Can I putty into the stack master make my confit changes then do a Write command and be done? Does this config get pushed to the other switch in the stack?

Thanks in advance for the information.
