Cisco 7940 Not powring up with poe

Dear Everyone who reads this,

A company was going out of business and said all the ip phones inside were to go to another home or company, i went in and garbed two a 7940 and 7960, When i got home and pluged them into my netgear poe switch nothing happened, I have another 7965 series and when i plug that one in it turns on and works, Sadly, i do not have a provider because i thought the two other phones I garbed did not need a provider, What do i do

 -                               It might do , but you will have to test that

Q. What IP phone models support the Cisco pre-standard method of powered device detection?

A. These Cisco IP phones can accept Cisco pre-standard PoE from a card integrated with a Cisco Catalyst switch or a Catalyst in-line power patch panel:

  • 7985G

  • 7960G

 - FYI : https://community.cisco.com/t5/ip-telephony-and-phones/7940-and-802-3af/td-p/795794

It looks like the 7940 can only do Cisco-POE
