Hello,

I have a question. I am able to configure DHCP for Vlan on Cisco 2960G switch (internal network purpose). Can I do the same for Cisco 4948E switch? Is Cisco 4948E switch support DHCP server?

Thanks,

Tommy

Hi

Yes it supports dhcp server features.
Now i don't remember if it's on basic ios version.

Thanks

I think it's running Enterprise ios version

Show Version:
Cisco IOS Software, Catalyst 4500 L3 Switch Software (cat4500e-ENTSERVICESK9-M), Version 15.1(2)SG7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Ok, have you tested creating the dhcp server scope?

Thanks
Francesco

I am not try yet. This Cisco 4948E switch is running with other Vlan (public network). I am not sure if setting DHCP server for another vlan (private network) cause any problems....

You can enable DHCP server for your internal network that won't cause any issues if no DHCP is already existing for those private networks. You will force the device to listen on DHCP (bootps) port which means, you can protect yourself from the wan to not allow anyone to use this port for any existing breach if your device isn't fully patched (you can do that as 2nd step to avoid any interruption of traffic due to acl implementation)

Thanks
