What do the persistent-data and private-config files contain in nvram on a 12.3 IOS router? Neither of the files have permissions available to the logged in user and seem to be unaccessible. Can you change permissions on nvram files or are these files used exclusively by the IOS?
Thanks,
RJ

Hi RJ ,
The private config contains data that can never be displayed , these are keys and certificates used by crypto image.

Thanks for the information. Does the nvram file, persistent-data, file also pertain to crypto keys?

I have both files in the nvram of 12.3 IOS mainline without the crypto image. Can they be related to something else as well?
Thanks,
RJ
