I have a number of 2960 LAN Lite switches running image C2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-50.se5.bin. I was asked to upgrade these to C2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-58.SE1.bin. I down loaded the image via TFTP and this resulted in flash looking as shown below
Directory of flash:/
2 -rwx 2124 Sep 13 2011 10:48:53 +01:00 vlan.dat
4 -rwx 27575 Sep 2 2011 10:02:35 +01:00 config.text
5 -rwx 10350304 Aug 22 2011 16:06:19 +01:00 c2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-58.SE1.bin
6 drwx 512 Mar 1 1993 00:07:23 +00:00 c2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-50.SE5
561 -rwx 3024 Sep 2 2011 10:02:35 +01:00 private-config.text
562 -rwx 4120 Mar 1 1993 00:00:53 +00:00 multiple-fs
27998208 bytes total (6321664 bytes free)
The trouble is that when I try to reload the switch it hangs output from console shown below
done.
Loading "flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-58.SE1.bin"...flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.1
22-58.SE1.bin: short read: bad mzip file
Error loading "flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-58.SE1.bin"
Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process.
Loading "flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-50.SE5/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.122-50.SE5.bin"
...@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Looks like there is something wrong with the new image however:-
I booted the switch into Boot loader and tried to boot from the original image again the switch hung.
I tried to delete the new image the switch hung
I treid to format the flash the switch hung
It seems that after booting the switch into Boot Loader and using Flash_init I can see the directory of flash above but can do nothing else making the switch hang.
This has happened on two switches I have tried to upgrade
The funny thing is that I have two other C2960 LAN Lite which have upgraded sucessfully with the same flash config.
Two questions
1 Has any one had the same problem?
2 How do you format or clear the flash when Bootloader keeps hanging when delete and format are used in Boot Loader ?

Try xmodem. If that helps, well and fine otherwise I guess it is a hardware failure. You might need to replace the two switches.
Follow this link for reference for xmodem:
