3850 IOS tftp failure

I am trying to push an IOS across my network from my laptop to a remote switch, but for some reason it keeps failing. It starts, but fails to download the file completely.

[1] % Failed to download file from tftp://10.1.xxx.xxx/cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.03.05.SE.150-1.EZ5.bin to active switch 1, operation aborted

I pushed the same IOS to a switch closer the same way on friday, so why is this being refused?

Hi,

Could you try this:-

1- Connect the port to one of the lan port and have the laptop assigned the ip address in the range of layer3 ip address configured on the switch.

2- Make sure ping is working fine between the switch and pc (vicevarsa).

3- Download tftp32 software on the pc.

4- Place the file in the root directory.

5- try to copy it should work.

I have my laptop connected to a switchport at the Datacenter. the location i'm trying to upgrade is a remote site, it seems to grab the file but then I get the error "Dropped because peer didn't respond" on my tftp server.

Looks to me issue with your tftp software.

Could you please donwload the latest tftp32 software and try to use.

Trusting that you dont have any ping drops  between your switch and router.

I have used tftp32 (solarwinds tftp), and tftpd which shows file transfer %, it establishes a connection, and usually drops within 4-6% of the file transfer. I'm just going to copy the IOS to a thumb drive and mail it to the other locations. This seems to be a much more reliable way than messing with policy groups and firewall settings.

hi,

try to disable personal firewall on your PC.

can laptop and switch ping each other?

try FTP as a last resort. see helpful link:
