4900 Active - Active State

We have two 4900's connected via trunked ports.  Is there any way to make these switches active/active state?  All the ports are currently layer two with one vlan interface and a default gateway for routing.

Chris,

Can you expand on your request for active/active state. Are you referring to FHRP? IF so, using something link HSRP with two groups to loadbalance your hosts can be achieved. To do so, create two hsrp groups with 2 Virtual IPs. Make 1 switch active for 1 group and the second switch active for the other.

If you are talking about FHRP protocols I can provide more details. If not, can you please add more details to your question.

Regards,

Dale

I was referring to how you can configure PIX/ASA for active/active.  Both boxes would pass traffic, have the same config, but if one switch went down, the other would take over.  Is this possible with HSRP?  Would it pass all traffic or just traffic on that subnet it is configured for? Is it even possible for both switches to pass all vlan traffic?

Thanks.
