“C” does not officialy stand for a specific word like "Core" or "Cloud" — rather, it's a product line indicator used by cisco to group similar model... This letter typically indicate that the switch supports QSFP/QSFP28 ports for 40G/100G conectivity.

You confuse me you label it as catalyst 9000 but it nexus I think 

If you meaning nexus then "C" refers to SW have fixed ports i.e. there is no module that allow you to change ports number or it BW.
