accesing a 2960 switch with no configured password

hello:

I configure a stack of 2960 xr switches with a username and password (using the secret password)

Username XXXXX privilege 15 secret

but forgot to enter the : enable secret  xxxxx     as part of the configuration

the problem is that I have console port enable to use the secret password for authentication. and so I cannot access the switch

how can I get access to the stack , if it asking for a password , yet I forgot to put in the enable secret password

how do I set the switch to factory default

thanks,

Hi,

You don't need to erase the config.  Just use the link to do a password recovery:

Hello, Reza:

I try that option.. the problem is that there is no password configured

Username XXXXX privilege 15 secret

the above local username is using the enable secret to be able to log in :

the line consol is using login local

so when I connect via console its going to ask for the username / enable secret password in order to put me straight into priv mode.. but the problem is that I didn't configured the enable secret

so there is no password to authenticate against

if your doing a password recovery it should bypass all passwords secret and aaa , and then you reset the passwords when it breaks you back into running-config.

It doesn't take me into a running-config

when I do the flash_init

then the next option is to boot:

after the boot , it just reboots normaly and comes up asking for username/ password  prompts

it doesn't ask me if i want to config the switch.

I followed the same procedure in the password recovery mechanism. and rename the config file.

thanks..

the problem that I was having was that when I did step 5 below, as indicated in the document it didn't work, but when I rename the file to config.old.text  the procedure worked..instead of config.text.old

thanks,

Step 5 Rename the configuration file to config.text.old This file contains the password definition. Switch: rename flash: config.text flash: config.text.old

Hi,

The password recovery procedure should make you bypass all passwords.  It should look as the device has no password/username, etc.. anymore.

Hi,

Have a look at this doc for 2960 xr series:
