I followed the right path from 7.0.7.N1.1.bin 7.1.4.N1.1.bin 7.3.1.N1.1.bin and the switches are up and running. The problem is after the upgrade I see input discards on may interfaces and I know where those are coming form. It is the backup server but I didn't have this issue before the upgrade. so what is the difference? Is that a bug in the IOS or the former IOS was not reporting correctly?

Looking at the release notes, I don't see anything about discards after the upgrade, but that does not mean there is no bug in the new image specially since this started after the upgrade.

Glad to help. You may also want to open a ticket with TAC and send them the outputs with discards frames.
