I'm trying to learn how Resilient Ethernet Protocol is selecting what port inside segment will be blocked. I'm aware that I can select particular port manually but I would like to know what algorithm is used by REP itself. So far I wasn't able to find any docs about it.

The blocking port (aka the Alternate port) is determined based on Port Priority; the port with the highest priority becomes the blocking/Alternate port. The Port Priority is based on a unique 60 bit Port ID and 4 MSB priority bits.
