This topic is a chance to discuss more about the how to implement the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) on an Ethernet Network. This session will provide you a better understanding about how to implement STP on Ethernet Networks, port sales, convergence timers, STP variants, the best configurations practices, the features that increase STP stability and the optimal type of STP to run on today’s Cisco Catalyst switches. Since STP aims to prevent broadcast storms, unstable MAC tables in switches and multiple duplicates on interface, it is of great importance to understand to learn more about the best practices to implement this protocol.

The switch is one of the most important and common devices in a LAN. The Spanning tree Protocol was developed to support redundancy in a Layer 2 Network, while preserving a loop-free logical topology. STP allows a network design to include back uplinks that helps to provide fault tolerance if an active link fails, it provides a single path of communication between each Ethernet segment.

Hi, 

we are having Dual Homed Host (Active/Standby) and Active-Active FEX (VPC) Design. when we connect a physical server with 2 uplinks to the FEX devices , it is creating L2 loop in the network  we are having similar set up in other location and it is working fine. 

only configuration difference is , in the earlier case we have not configured the peer-switch command under the vpc.

if we configure the peer switch command under vpc, will it resolve the issue..? also please explain the reason for loop.

The vPC peer switch is a feature introduced into Nexus 7K to improve concerns about STP convergence time.This functionality allows a pair of Nexus 7k to appear as a single STP root in a layer 2 topology (They share a virtual Bridge ID).  In the case of  of the vPC primary peer device failure this behavior improve vPC convergence lowering traffic disruption on the downstream switches because from the STP perspective there is not a change in the L2 topology (no need of new root election).

There are some recommendations you need to carefully considered when having this type of configuration.

Qual o impacto o STP vai sofrer? Com essas novas mudanças da rede tradicional para a rede digital, com o Cisco DNA, essas tarefas de configurações, resolução de problemas vai se tornar mais simples ? automática ? resumindo, como o STP é realizado nesse novo modelo de rede, CLI ?
