ASR9000 Line Card Labeling – A9K‑8X100G‑LB‑SE vs A9K‑8X100GE‑L‑SE

Hello everyone,

I’m in the process of ordering some ASR 9000 8x100GE SE line cards and I need to confirm something before proceeding.

The part number I am ordering is:
A9K‑8X100G‑LB‑SE

However, we've been advised the following:

“These cards will always have A9K‑8X100GE‑L‑SE printed on the faceplate and on the manufacturing test sheet. Cisco uses one standardized faceplate and process for both SKUs. Functionally, they are identical hardware.”

I would like to double‑check with the Cisco community or TAC engineers here:

  1. Is it correct that if I order an A9K‑8X100G‑LB‑SE, the physical faceplate and test sheet will still show A9K‑8X100GE‑L‑SE?
  2. Are A9K‑8X100G‑LB‑SE and A9K‑8X100GE‑L‑SE truly identical hardware (same ASICs, same features), with the only difference being how Cisco lists them in its ordering system?

If anyone has an official reference, TAC case insight, or Cisco documentation confirming this labeling practice, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance for your help!

hello @SNI-Admin. Yes, what u’ve been told is correct.

so for the first question: 1.  Yes, if you order an A9K‑8X100G‑LB‑SE, it’s normal for the faceplate and manufacturing test sheet to still say A9K‑8X100GE‑L‑SE. Cisco uses a single hardware model for both SKUs — the distinction is made in software licensing, not in physical hardware.

and the second one: 2. both SKUs are physically identical — same ASICs, same ports, same hardware features. The only difference is how Cisco tracks and licenses them in their system (i.e., entitlement and software capabilities).
