Hi
I have a switch with vlan 5 svi with ip of 172.20.0.10. We have all the servers using this as their default gateway. We want to change this ip to 172.20.0.1 so I am wondering, will I be able to assign a secondary IP of 172.20.0.1 to this sv1 and then slowly migrate the default gateways over.
Will this work?
Thanks

Hi,
Yes, you can assign a secondary IP address to the SVI. Remember, when you change the gateway for each server from .10 to .1, there will be very short outage. So you may want to consider doing it in a maintenance window.

Not 100% sure, but the assigning a secondary, within the same subnet, might cause an issue.
If it does, one other way of doing this, leave the SVI IP as is, but add an HSRP IP for your new gateway. Clients will also be able to use either a GW IP.

I've just quickly labbed the HSRP and yes that is pretty simple and works if both IPs are in the same subnet.
Thanks for that
