Avaya 9600 phones on Cisco 3750X DHCP & LLDP issues

Hello All,

I'm having an issue that is similar to what I have seen in other other threads, but with some other, odd behavior. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

  • Some phones are coming up with no problem.
  • Some phones power up and appear to be awaiting a DHCP lease - message on phone "Waiting for LLDP" is displayed until the phone restarts and retries to gain DHCP.
  • On the problem phones, their MAC's do not register when the command show lldp neighbors is issued.
  • The MAC of the PC connected to the phone dpes register, and the PC gets an IP with normal network access until phone reboots.
  • I am relatively new in this environment, and this network has tons of trunks from closets to core switches.
  • I am using auto qos.

Here is an example of my switchport configs:

switchport access vlan 50

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport trunk native vlan 50

switchport trunk allowed vlan 50,308

switchport mode trunk

switchport voice vlan 308

srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20

queue-set 2

priority-queue out

mls qos trust cos

auto qos voip trust

spanning-tree portfast

I have not had any luck without the "switchport voice vlan 308" command. I am using DHCP option 242 and 176.

The former engineer stopped by and used a different port config that worked.

switchport access vlan 50

switchport voice vlan 308

srr-queue bandwidth share 1 30 35 5

queue-set 2

priority-queue out

mls qos trust cos

auto qos trust

spanning-tree portfast

The major difference is taking the port out of trunk mode.  According to TAC, the former config is valid (?).  I'm a little confused about having partial success with phones logging in versus zero phones logging in successfully.
