bonjour across vlans cisco layer 3

Hello!

I'm sorry to bother you, but I couldn't find information about my problem anywhere.

I have a catalyst 4506 with many vlans and I need that bonjour protocol pass between all VLANs, I already enable multicast routing and pim dense mode in the interface VLAN, but still don't work.

I tried in Cisco web site, but there are information only about wireless.

Anybody knows how to solve this problem?

Hi,

Bonjour does not work like  that. mDNS is local to the subnet. (It use multicast  add: 224.0.0.251) You need to use DNS-SD if you want your services to cross a router.

See the below thread tells how to configure cisco devices to allow multicast which is in itself how bonjour will cross vlan boundaries.

Bonjour sends its multicast packet with a TTL of 1. It will not go across a router.  Apple's Wide Area Bonjour service rely on DNS(Dynamic and Static) to advertise services.

Dyndns.com as a good example of how you configure this when you use ther service.

Thanks for the response, this link that you sent to me talk about the same problema that I have, but he didn't find the solution yet.

I don't know if doesn't exist solution for this problem, but I think yes, because nowadays there are a lot of company that work with Ipad, then this kind of problem will become commom, don't you think?
