Buffer issues on Cisco 9300

deniserconway
Visitor

Is anyone else seeing this type of issue:

  • Endpoints woke from sleep still operating at 10 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps.
  • The devices generated very large numbers of 802.3x pause frames.
  • A single port consumed up to 96% of a shared ASIC buffer pool.
  • Other interfaces sharing that ASIC buffer experienced massive output drops and appeared "down" even though physical connectivity remained intact.
  • Simply administratively bouncing the affected port forced renegotiation back to 1000 Mbps, immediately clearing the buffer exhaustion condition.

We upgraded from 17.12.05a to this release but did not resolve the issue. We have found that laptops connected to DELL dockiing stations might have caused the issue and upgraded their firmware thinking this was the root cause. It was not.

    - @deniserconway              17.15.5  is  more recent and current advisory

Not an issue I've seen, and we have a lot of Dell and docks.

Some questions/troubleshooting.

Is this 1 client, or multiple?

If single, does it follow the client if you plug it into another port?

If multiple, what/when dd this start to occur and what change happened? (windows updates, driver updates etc.)

Have you tried to disable the NIC from going to sleep?

As a matter of interest, are these docks without a machine attached?

I ran into a problem several months ago and found it was related to docks that had machines removed from them and were now empty.
