C4KX-NM-8SFP: usage

All:

I have a rather basic question about the C4KX-NM-8SFP Network Expansion module for the Catalyst 4500-X series.  I currently have 2 x 4500-X VSS pair, 16 Port switches.  Apparently my customer is in need of additional access ports, without incurring the cost of a brand new SPF switches to expand the ACCESS Ports...  

My question to any and all:

Can this expansion module (C4KX-NM-8SFP+) be used to create 8 additional ACCESS Switchports instead of UPLINK Ports, (the product documentation says it is an 'expansion ETHERNET UPLINK Module')?

Any comments/info would be greatly appreciated!!

The expansion ports should have the same features as the built-in ports, which shouldn't be limited to "uplink".

What might be an issue is choice of SFPs or features of copper SFPs.
