C9500 Dual-active detection

Hello Guys

First of all, let me ask you another question:

- Do you think if a combination of C9500 and C9200 is a reasonable upgrade of a combination of C3850 and C2960X ?( A collapsed core environment )

- When we read C9500 documents and data sheet, Cisco has mentioned it's necessary to use 10G/40G links to implement StackWise . But it didn't mentioned about link speed of dual-active detection? I was thinking, is it possible to use a couple of 1G links (GLC-SX-MMD or even GLC-T) to configure Dual-Active Detection because it's more cost effective.

Note: I've sent an email to Cisco to add the answer to its documents.

Hello Salem,

your understanding is correct.

1) Cat 9500 can be a substitute of C3850 and Cat 9200 are the replacement for C2960X

2) for dual active detection a 1Gbps link is enough without wasting a 10GE or 40GE link for this.

This was explained in a previous thread here in the forums. The use of 1 GE lnk for dual active detection is supported  also for Cisco 6500 VSS. The reason is that the amount of traffic exchanged is very small it is just a keepalive mechanism in the control plane.(think of BFD to make an example that is standards based)

Hope to help

Giuseppe
