hi all, vss is running 12.2(33)SXI5
we are having some weird issues with the chassis going to recovery mode when the active sup is pulled (standby sup also in chassis).
should we upgrade to the latest or stick with the existing?
thanks!

Robert,
You don't need to upgrade your code. Dual Sup in each chassis is supported starting with SXI4, so you are fine.
What happens if you take the second Sup out of both chassis and use only one Sup in each and build VSS?
Does VSS behave normal in this case?

hi reza, it works fine with a single sup in each chassis
the problem happens when we pull the active sup (active chassis 2) or the hot sup (standby chassis 2)..
the chassis where the sup engine is pulled reboots and goes into recovery mode. i know this is not normal.

Hi Robert,
Technically the virtual-switch (old ACTIVE) should go in recovery-mode ONLY when it lost all its VSL links with peer switch & dual-active detection got kicked in. May be you need to provide some additional detail to analyze :
- Before OIR, how many Sup's in SW1 and what is their SSO role & status?
- Before OIR, how many Sup's in SW2 and what is their SSO role & status?
- Before Sup OIR what is the VSL design and EtherChannel status?
Repeat all after ACTIVE supervisor OIR from one of the chassis...
thanks,
rahul.
