Catalyst 6509- Config File

My boot varaible on my 6509 is as under:

BOOT variable = bootflash:cat6000-sup2k8.8-6-1.bin,1;bootflash:,1;

CONFIG_FILE variable = slot0:switch.cfg

Configuration register is 0x10f

ignore-config: disabled

auto-config: non-recurring, overwrite, sync disabled

ROMMON console baud: 9600

boot: image specified by the boot system commands

Image auto sync is disabled

Image auto sync timer is 120 seconds

There is no config.cfg on the system.

1. Once the switch is reset,will it buid the configuration from the NVRAM or it would look for config.cfg and since the file is not there,it would erase the NVRAM config and come up as a raw switch.

2. What configurational change should i do so that the switch always gets its configuration from the NVRAM.( i dont want to use the auto-config feature)

In CatOS, the config file is always and automatically saved in NVRAM. You dont have to do a " wr mem" in case to save the configruation changes to NVRAM, it automatically gets saved in NVRAM. Whenever switch reboots it picks up the file from NVRAM.

If you want switch to always get config from NVRAM, makre sure that yoyur config-register is not set to 0x2142 at all. With the 0x2142, switch ignores the NVRAM config and boots as a raw switch.Generally it is set to 0x2102.
