Cisco 3850 PSU Swap

hi,

i got a 3850 switch running on a single PWR-C1-715WAC PSU only

we got 2x spare of PWR-C1-350WAC and would like to use them both.

am i correct to say these are hot-swappable, i.e insert 1x PWR-C1-350WAC in the spare PSU slot and then replace the existing PWR-C1-715WAC with the other PWR-C1-350WAC?

no, it's not doing PoE.

Hi,

The power supplies don't have to necessarily be the same for redundancy to work. In other words, you can have one 350 power supply and one 715 because only one of them power up the switch and the other one is on standby.

thanks for the feedback! i remember got a previous 3850 with different PSU1 and PSU1 rating (350 and 715 W).

is there a negative impact when using different PSU wattage in both primary and secondary PSU?

will it cause an overheat or malfunction in the long run?

i haven't seen/read a doc recommending to use same PSU rating.

I'd keep the sizes the same. 

This is make sure if one of the two fails, the other one will still have enough power to drive the chassis.
