Cisco Catalyst 9400 IOS-XE Upgrade ISSU - UNSUCCESSFUL

Hello,

We attempted an ISSU Upgrade version 16.09.03 Cisco Catalyst 9410 equipped with Sup-1s. The ISSU upgrade failed and now the Stand-by Sup appears to be in rmon mode. The Active Sup remained up and is still intact. We need to get to 17.03.05 Code for another network requirement.

Does anyone know if we upgrade the Active Sup, then boot the Standby Sup, if the Standby Sup will be automatically upgraded once it's completed booting to the former code 16.09.03?

Thank you,

Terry

Hi,

Since you have 2 sups in that switch, you should be able to upgrade one sup at a time with no downtime. See the link for more info:

I have always maintained the opinion that ISSU, FSU/eFSU only works in "corner cases" (like in a lab) and in production, it normally fails.

The only way to get the secondary to join the "stack" is to manually boot the firmware using a USB stick and the ROMMON command of "emergency-install usbflash0:filename.bin".
