Cisco IE3300-8U2X-E Te1/1 reconnect 10G to 5G

hopo

Level 1

Dear Cisco,

We're using Cisco IE3300-8U2X-E for connecting multiple 1GbE sensors to a computer via 10 GbE uplink.
We have trouble the 10 GbE connection is disconnected, and after a few seconds, connect to 5GbE.

Our 10GbE NIC only supports 100/1000/10000BASE-T, not 5000BASE-T.
So, I think that reconnecting to 5GbE is not requested from NIC.

The problem occurs every day, and after the 5GbE connection is established, there's no disconnection.

I have logs for two occurrences.
And I could see the Voltage low warning for the Te1/1 interface, which is connected to the 10GbE NIC.

I hope you look into this soon.

Not even remotely possible.
Ten 1/1 is connected using SFP-10G-SR.  The optics has one speed only, 10 Gbps.  There is no "multi-speed" optics in the 5- or 10 Gbps category.

If you're saying the PC drops speed, from 10 Gbps, to 5 Gbps on fibre optic, then something is really wrong with the NIC card of the PC.

Dear Leo,

We don’t use fiber optic cable.

We use a 10GbE NIC with an RJ45 port and connect to the Te1/1 port using an SPF connector and Cat 6a ethernet cable.

And as I mentioned above, the 10GbE NIC, which we used only supports 100/1000/10000BASE-T, not 5000BASE-T.

This is why I NIC would not request a 5GbE connection.

Please see the logs, and I hope you describe the logs in detail.

Best Regards,

Hyung-Joon

That is in the attached file called "Log2_Te1_1_reconnect_to_5Gbps_int.txt".

That, to me, says fibre optic.

Is this a media converter?

You can think like that.

As mentioned above, we use Cat 6a RJ45 cable with an SPF connector.

If possible, please describe the Voltage low warning and connection logs.

Please provide the exact model number of the media converter.

Wait, that is wrong.

That optics is GLC-T but the "sh interface Ten 1/1" output shows the optics as SFP-10G-SR.
Those two are totally different optics.

Please provide the complete output to the following commands:

  • sh inventory
  • sh interface Ten1/1 transceiver properties

I still say this optic in Ten1/1 is a fibre optic because of the "low power" logs.  I do not believe GLC-T is used.

I've attached the combination of SPF+Cat 6a Cable.

There is no other connector and cable to us.

And I will try your command when I can use the system.

So FS.com re-flashed the SFP-10G-T as an SFP-10G-SR.

What firmware is the switch running on?

Thank you, Leo.

I didn't know there were many types of SFP+ connectors.
Now I understand what you said. I could see SFP-10G-SR in 'sh inventory' log.

NAME: "TenGigabitEthernet1/1", DESCR: "SFP-10GBase-SR"
PID: SFP-10G-SR , VID: V03 , SN: F2020490517

As I already attached the image, we know our SFP+ connector is SPF-10G-T-S, but it's not.

I need your description of using the SFP-10G-SR connector can cause a problem and how we can handle this.
Is it possible that the IE3300-8U2X-E Switch detects the SFP+ type wrong?

Here are the three logs.

Dear Leo,

I asked fs.com about the problem that our SFP-10G-T-S media converter is detected as SFP-10G-SR.

I've received answer from fs.com:
We've been using the 10G-SR coding to reprogram the 10G-T module to ensure it's compatibility, so it will show 10G SR. But please be rest assured it won't affect the working performance, and what you purchased is 10G-T modules not SR.

They said it wouldn't affect.

Can you give us a further investigation about this issue?

Best Regards,
Hyung-Joon

I trust FS if they reflash the SFP-10G-T to an SFG-10G-SR.  They do this all the time and this is one reason why people have been able to use SFP-10G-T into Cisco-branded appliances several months (>8 months) BEFORE Cisco announced the support.

Downgrade the firmware of the switch to 17.3.5 and see if it makes any difference.

Do you have a pattern how long it will take for the server to down-shift to 5 Gbps?

It is my first time using the Cisco switch, so I don't know how to download the firmware and downgrade it. And our system is in Japan, and our engineering team is only in South Korea, so we should downgrade the switch firmware remotely via SSH.

Is there any risk when downgrading the switch?

And I searched the Cisco website, but I couldn't find the download link of the firmware. I only could find the link:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/cisco_ie3X00/software/17_3/b-17-3-x-release-notes-iot-switch.html#Cisco_Concept.dita_17aafaa5-b4d2-402b-95ff-870641d15a22

Can you let me know how to downgrade to 17.3.5?
Thank you.
