Cisco Onex converter module compatibility with SFP modules

I need to know whether SFP interfaces is supported in SFP+ interface created using Onex module.

The Typical scenario is as under :

Switch : Cisco 4900M with 8 nos of default X2 ports ( no half card installed)

I am planning to install Onex converter module in one of the X2 port. The documentation says that it will convert 10 Gbps X2 port into a 10 Gbps SFP+ interface.

Now : 1) Whether we can use normal gigabit SFP module in this SFP+ module

2) If no can twingig converter modules be used in the default X2 ports of 4900M switch. It works with half card X2 port but not sure about the default X2 ports.

Thanks

mks

Hi MKS,

Hope to Help !!

Hi mks,

It seems, supported only on 8-port (2:1) 10 Gigabit Ethernet (X2) half card.

See the below link will help you.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps6021/ps9310/Data_Sheet_Cat_4900M.html

And 10-Gigabit Ethernet has four slots. Two slots support only 1-Gigabit SFP modules. Two slots support either 1-Gigabit SFP or 10-Gigabit SFP+ modules.

Please rate the helpfull posts.

Naidu.

Thanks ganesh and naidu,

But my problem is little different.

1) The pdf related to onex and other documentation available on cisco website tells the compatibility of supported 10 G SFP+ modules, it does not tells whether gigabit SFP modules are still supported on these modules

2)  I also assumes that the twingig converter modules for X2 ports which supports both SFP/SFP+ are not supported on default X2 ports

Do someone have more insight on the point 1 , as I still beleive lower speed interface should logically be supported on higher speed interface for backward compatibility...

thanks mks
