Cisco PIX-515e and a PIX-4FE

Hi All,

I'm relativly new to the world of cisco so my appologies in advance if my question is lame, or in the wrong place.

Question is this.. About to purchase a PIX-515E with a limited license to serve as the primary Firewall/NAT device for an upcomming project.  However, the PIX only has 2 physical interfaces, and a license for 3 physical interfaces.  If I purchase a PIX-4FE(4port 10/100), will I only be able to use one of the ports?   If this is the case can you please advise as to what kind of license I need to be able to utilized all 6(2+4) interfaces.

reference this link for licenses types in table-3,   your asumption is correct,   if your firewall  holds a R (Restricted license ) you will only be able to use one more interface of the 4 port PIX-4FE card you want to install in PIX.    If  your firewall currently have the R license this license seen by output of "show version " the  Part number is PIX-515E-R-DMZ-BUN,  in order for you  to fully use the remaining 3 ports   you will need a UR  license  part number  PIX-515E-UR-FE-BUN
