Good day All,

I have an old 2901 SW and I noticed scrolling in the logs:

*Jul 16 14:19:10.135: %PLATFORM-3-PIP_ERR: PIP error reg 0x00000080
*Jul 16 14:19:15.247: %PLATFORM-3-PIP_ERR: PIP error reg 0x00000080
*Jul 16 14:19:20.463: %PLATFORM-3-PIP_ERR: PIP error reg 0x00000080
*Jul 16 14:19:25.771: %PLATFORM-3-PIP_ERR: PIP error reg 0x00000080

Trying to findout what this is and has anyone encountered this before?  If you can you please lead me to the documentation to fix this.

Thank you all in advance!!

%PLATFORM-3-PIP_ERR : PIP error reg [hex]
Explanation    The Packet Input Processing Unit (PIP), which is a hardware unit within the processor detected a memory                       parity error and notifies CPU through an interrupt. This could be a hardware error
Recommended Action    If this problem is recurs, replace the hardware.

if you do reboot and see same error then this SW is dead I think
MHM

So do that mean if I reboot the switch but still see it, SW is no good and nothing else we can do?

during reboot the SW check all hardware if same log appear again then sorry this SW is dead

also try check this
show platform hardware status

MHM

I don't see that show command:

show platform hardware status

As part of the selection but when I do a

show platform  error

I do see "Pip Err" incrementing.  I will trying reboot the switch over the weekend and hope for the best, will keep you updated.

If this post solved your problem, kindly mark it as Accepted Solution. Much appreciated!

I was hoping no one would say that but I will give a reboot anyways and see, till then I guess I will start looking to see if I have an available switch to swap it out then.  I will keep you all updated on what happens after the reboot.  Thank you guys!!!
