I have been using winagent's hyperconf to make, track, and manage config backups for a couple of year. it looks like the company is now gone (I can't get a response to any emails to any email address I can find for them). I am looking for alternative software and would like suggestions. here are some criteria that I would like it have:
-run on a windows desktop (and not too bulky)
-scheduled backups of configs w/ notifications
-keep all configs in a database or some kind of encrypted system (not clear text file in the file system)
-and a compare mode
-access devices using ssh, not snmp

you can try KiWi Cattools. It's provide everything you need, except encryption.

I'm using it for one year, and it is really good.

ya, I am trying kiwi now but it really doesn't compare to winagents. the gui on winagents was much more advanced plus to me the encryption thing is kinda big. didn't want other people who get get onto my laptop get access to encryption and tunnel keys in configs.

You could always encrypt the whole laptop if you can't find something that suits you.
