Configure GLBP between 2 Routers

I want to setup a gateway load balancing protocol, I have a question about the physical connection.  My lab is setup as follows. 1 TWC cable modem, 1 Cisco 1841 router and 1 Cisco 2950 switch.

The FastEthernet 0/0 is connected to the cable modem, and the FastEthernet 0/1 is connected to the switch and this the gateway port for the LAN. Everything is working as intended.

My question is how do I connect the 2 routers together to configure GLBP, I know I have to use cross over cable, please note that I am not using the serial interface as I have no need to use it. The cable modem is connected to the router fa0/0 and it acquires IP address dynamically from my ISP.

Thank you in advance.

Mike

Hi The switch where the 2 pcs are needs to have a connection to each 1800 router and then connect the 1800s together as well with a cross link , then run GLBP on the SVI interface on each router

You shouldn't need a crossover most newer kit supports mdix automatically for straight through cables

each 1800 would have a link to the modem as well with same default route for load balancing

Thank you for your response, I understand your explanation. I am ordering a 5 port switch to serve as a hub for the cable modem because it only have one Ethernet port that is connected to fa0/0 of the router.

I am still not clear about the physical connections between the 2 1841 routers considering that the fa0/0 and fa0/01 have been utilized. Please see attached file for the router physical ports and let me know which port to use for the interconnection between the 2 routers.

Thank you.

You don't need a physical connection between the routers.

You just connect the other router to the switch using it's fa0/1 interface and make sure everything ie. the router interfaces connecting to the switch and the clients are in the same vlan.

Thank you all for the help, I understand the logic now. Yes they are on the same VLAN. Once I have the 5 port switch delivered I will configure the glbp. I am currently studying for my ICND2 and I found this lab to be interesting and decided to try it out using my equipment instead of package tracer and I also want to have a redundancy in my home network.

I have 2 (2950's) switches, just need to configure STP, for now the glbp have the highest priority.

You don't have to have the two routers connected like that it will work without it but in my opinion it would be better to have link between them  , but if your out of ports not much you can do other than use without cross connect or add a switch if you really want to but it should not effect the glbp it will operate over the current switch to each other router , you will still have a single point of failure though in your switch and the new hub but you will have redundant gateways in the 18s
