configuring HSRP on routed links up to wan router

Hello,

We currently have 2 N9k cores that are VPC peers and all VLANs configured across both of them are the same and are HSRPd for downstream switches and routers to have redundant gateways.

Next, each n9k core has 1 routed interface up to our WAN router that goes outside.  Each interface is configured with EIGRP.  Is HSRP really necessary here to have since both n9ks have 1 way out to the wan router each?  Will EIGRP on both those links be good enough redundancy and/or failover instead of configuring hsrp?

Hi

If you have both Nexus and your wan routers in the same eigrp, that's fine you don't need hsrp for wan.

I bet your wan is advertising the default route. If you wanted to use hsrp, that means you have one link as primary and the second one is taking over when first goes down, am i right?

If yes, you just need to be sure that routes advertised by first wan will be preferred over the second link.

Thanks
Francesco
