Is there any specific setting need to setup when connecting Cisco Rv042G to Media Converter.

I have a problem right now, the case is

When MC is connected with Laptop directly. Connection is fine.

When Router is connected with Laptop directly. Connection is fine.

But When we connected like as below, Can't even ping router from laptop.

MC ~ Rv042G Router ~ Laptop

I had test over many things and finally found solution.

The problem is Rv042G firmware 4.2.1.02 having issue. When I upgrade to v4.2.2.08,

it seems there is no connectivity issue. Whatever, thank everyone for giving your time to help me out.

Hello,

which model/type of media converter is it ?

CTC Media Converter FMC-1000MS

Hello,

when you connect the RV042 to the media converter, do you have a link at all ? In the port settings page of the RV042 (page 97 of the attached guide) check the status of the port where the media converter is connected to.

Also, are you using a cross or a straight cable ?

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/routers/csbr/rv0xx/administration/guide/rv0xx_AG_78-19576.pdf

I can see that link signal at MC and i can't check port setting because as soon as I connect Router to MC.
Ping request to My Router become over 2000 ms (or) Request time out from Laptop.

For the Cable I am using Cat 6 (Straight Cable Type).

I believe now a day Routers had Auto MDI-X function for auto-adjusting cabling Or do I need to use Cross-Over Cable Type between MC & Router.

Hello,

that really is the first thing you want to do with these small business routers - upgrade the firmware to the latest version. Glad that you got it to work...
