Convergence Time, Ethernet Ring

Hi everyone!

I'm designing a ring ethernet network which has a main Ring(around 30 nods)  and some other small rings which have one nod in common with the main ring. (See the attachment, please)

My question is that is it possible to reach convergence time lower than half a second just by using simple switches (which do not support Cisco Resillient Ethernet Protocol (REP)? I think if all switches use Rapid STP, the convergence time would be about a few seconds. Can I change configurations in a way that meet lower convergence time?

For clearing thing up: The network is dedicated for a special purpose (guess for CCTV) and I'm responsible to select inexpensive and suitable switches. I'm going to select from managed switches series, maybe SF350. Do you think it is ok?

Your help and suggestion are greatly appreciated  :)

Amir

I think that I should use more advanced switches in the main ring...
